In 2012, editor and publisher C.D. Brown moved to Los Angeles to get his master’s degree in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California. While there, a friend proposed they put together an anthology to take advantage of the recent wave of self-publishing. While the friend had to drop out, Brown continued with the project.

The concept, crime meets magic in a specific city, produced two anthologies: Dirty Magick: Los Angeles and later Dirty Magick: New Orleans. While these anthologies got some attention, the stress of producing them combined with a new career as a college professor along with developing his own writing career led Brown to set aside the work.

But emboldened by what he sees as a gap in the market, Brown is restarting the title as a subscription online magazine. With semi-pro rates and a unique focus, he hopes to grow this magazine into a vital and exciting venue for storytelling.
